In his unmistakable musical language Ludger Vollmer has a strong focus on rhythm and melody. For his melodies and rhythms he draws inspiration from non-European cultures. Modes serve as melodic seeds, rhythm supplies the drive and heterophony adds the characteristic depth to his music.
A “mentally executed mountain hike” was Ludger Vollmer’s abbreviated description of this three movement work when my duo partner Thea Nielsen and I fi rst started rehearsing with the composer. This is meant more metaphysically rather than descriptively.
