Description
Duo Arrabal
Were he alive, Astor Piazzolla would demand that the tango transform and further evolve. He created the “Tango Nuevo” by formally arranging the music, enriching it with new harmonies and establishing it in the concert hall. It was no arbitrary decision to choose flute and guitar (the first instruments of tango) as the instrumentation for his “Histoire du Tango” (1988). In these 4 movements, he traces the stylistic development of the tango, from the lively and melancholy right on up to modern pieces influenced by Bartók und Stravinsky.
The last piece, “Concert d’aujourd’hui”, is the starting point for the project Tango Contempóraneo. The Duo Arrabal continues in Piazzolla’s tradition and commissions composers of today’s generation to write new works for the Duo Arrabal.
