Description
This CD brings together song cycles by five composers who live in Berlin. The works, which are very varied stylistically, have been brought together by the soprano Andrea Chudak who is both the initiatrix of the project and the interpreter. Togehter with her accompanist Barbara Kler on the piano these unusual moments of contemporary Berlin Song Composition were performed live and in a stimulating exchange with their composers. The composers themselves were born between 1941 and 1971 and the musical styles ambrace a wide spectrum, from essentially expreimental approaches to clear tonal accounts. Each of the composers in this collection seems to have trodden a very individualistic musical path, far from convention. For Andrea Chudak the role of the singer also played a role in her choice – the works selected are, with all their manifold differences, well suited to the capabilities of the human voice and have provided a challenge to her as the interpreter.
