Description
“Match 2” was written for the Philippe Manoury Academy of the Musica Festival in Strasbourg. It is the second part of a Cycle of pieces for Percussion and Piano. In “Match 2” I work with different kind of musical Ideas, represented by musical Objects: A selection of Objects is called a Cell. One Cell, a collection of punctual Elements is always comeing back and creating a kind of Ritornell. The general Material is based on the low Fundamentals of the harmonic Series. I create a spectral Shadow with the silent Keys in the Piano. In a rhythmical Context, I work with a Jean Claude Risset inspired Scale, that interpolates slowly to a Doppler Effect. In the beginning of the piece, you find the Varése Chord (or the Wyschnegradsky Chor) only in a punctual field. At the end, the chord and his Doppler Effect structure expands so much, that every key of every Instrument is sounding (Vibraphon, Marimba, Piano). In this sense, the piece is a gradual expansion of a musical idea, in combination with a Ritornell. In addition, there are solo sections in all instruments, which are framed by punctual fields. The idea of Match is inspired by sport: Two groups of players interact with each other. In this sense we have two teams: Percussion and Piano. In the end no one will win the match. The solo sections have better strategies and tactics. The climax of the play lies in the golden ratio.
