Description

Prgramm Notes

‘Maschinenangst” (La mascherata degli impotenti) is the most important part of the Italian futurist poet Ruggero Vasari’s almost forgotten trilogy and it is built around a character that is not exactly a robot but more of a machine-human. Maschinenangst is a work that is related to the socio-economic world of post-war Europe in the 1920s via metaphors. Today what draws attention to being first examples of fantasies built around mechanized human image, these drawings already have had a modernist quality to them, which will be very popular later on.
The piece is created with structured/crafted improvisational textures that vary sometimes with traditional composition techniques and sometimes with computing processes. The musical metaphors related to human and machine are thus symbolized; improvisation as a ‘tainted’ human being that is dominantly shaped with craft and machine work by the “creator”.
