Listening to the innermost essence of things – Acoustic counterworlds.

In the 21st century, what can a creator of electroacoustic music produce in the face of universally available machine and environmental sounds? When almost every small
electronic device of everyday life already has a repertoire of sophisticated sound emissions?
This album offers answers to these questions with works by Clemens von Reusner
from the last five years, music whose material – with the exception of the piece Salix
– was produced and developed exclusively using electronic tools. However, the creative
impulses, the imagination and questions, the elaboration and further development, and
finally the details, fine-tuning, and dramaturgy are the work of an artistically thinking,
perceiving, feeling, and acting human being.
“Sometimes a sound idea is very clear in your head. Then it is often a lengthy process
to realize it,” says Clemens von Reusner in his radio play “selbstLaut,” which was first
broadcast on Hessischer Rundfunk in 2011. In it, he explains: “An occasion for composing
always arises from experimentation, from a questioning attitude. What happens if
I change this or that parameter in sound synthesis or filtering processes to the extreme, if
I play against the rules, so to speak?” These are some of the ways in which Clemens von
Reusner’s works are created. “Electroacoustic music is still the great sonic adventure,”
the composer notes today, “technology is not an end in itself, but rather a means of formulating an aesthetic position that would not be possible without this technology.” The recordings on this album demonstrate the unexpected and immensely rich soundscapes
that this opens up.
