Description
„Trio III“ belongs to a series of smaller chamber music pieces (duets and trios), where individual ways of playing as well as a high degree of collective “melting together” play an important role. In “Trio III” it is especially the idiomatic use of the alto sax that received special attention, although it is not treated as an accompanied solo instrument. Concerto-like elements do not play a significant role in this composition. The piano is treated quite percussion-like and therefore has to be played accordingly, if not indicated otherwise in the score. The preparation of the piano should be done in order to achieve bell-like, slightly muted sounds with a good resonance. Furthermore I prefer a quite “alien” sound (quasi ”ring-modulated”), which is more similar to non-pitched (or not precisely pitched) metal percussion instruments. Please take care that the preparation can be attached and removed quickly.
