Ordine e Disordine

This piece is inspired by an embroiled work by Alighiero e Boetti where the letters of the words order and disorder are arranged vertically in sans-serif type in four rows of four letters. Each letter
and its ground have been embroidered in brilliant colors chosen by Afghan weavers.
One block of 100 elements is hung in a strict modernist geometrical pattern; the other block of 99 is installed in a loose constellation. Overall, there is a constant oscillation between figure and ground, legibility and illegibility, chance and design.

The composition reflects the geometrical scheme of this art-work. Order and Disorder is a work composed of 199 measures (square elements), each measuring approximately 1,5 seconds for a
total duration of 300 seconds (5 minutes).

There are 2 main elements: A (order) and B (disorder), where the systematical and rational disposition in space A is often overlapped with the opposing random and scarcely improvisational
disposition of the B element; the latter is not characterized by a lack of order, but from a system so complex and chaotic that our usual perception of order is unrecognizable.
