What a coincidence: In February 2021 during the peak period of the Corona pandemic crisis, I was about to retire and to enter the last phase of my life. Certainly, music will continue to play a central role, and this piece is the beginning of that final period. Exactly at that moment, the curator of a concert program (my colleague and close friend, the percussionist Johannes Fischer), where this piece will be premiered, gave me a commission with the pre-requisite that it should refer to my youth, when so-tospeak, my musical career started. And as everyone know, it was first in the field of rockjazz and psychedelic rock music, including my idols Frank Zappa, Weather Report, Nice, Popol Vuh and Tangerine Dream, just to name a few. After my first cautious steps in this realm between 1970 and 1973, I finally could bring a group of crazy musicians together, where curiousness was everything and where we experimented in many directions. Unfortunately, it was mainly me, who composed the weird stuff , which my friends desperately tried to play. And all this happened in the small city of Speyer, which one
may find on the river Rhine near Heidelberg.
I think it is quite important to know that background, because I will refer to some stylistic elements of that time. I will even quote some of my pieces from that time.
