“Qi” is Chinese for “seven”, and in conjunction with cento—from settecento—results in a hybrid Sino-Italian term of my own invention for denoting the Sino-European eighteenth century. The three pieces, composed at various times between 2010 and their completion on 11 July 2012, are indeed constructed out of various samplings of eighteenth-century Chinese and European music.
